Texture – Moderately coarse but even
Strength – Keruing generally compares with teak in most strength categories, but it is a little stiffer, and about 40 per cent more resistant to shock load.
Weight – High – about 720 kg/m³. Density can vary by 20% or more.
Ease Of Drying – dries slowly. Difficult to achieve uniform drying particularly in thick stock. There is a high shrinkage during drying and a corresponding high movement potential.
Movement In Service – Medium.
Preservative Treatment – Difficult
Keruing can be difficult to work with without the correct cutters/tooling.
Nailing – Reasonable
Screwing – Reasonable
Gluing – Variable
Varnishing and Polishing – Requires a lot of care due to resin
